In my Webcomic, Nu-City Blues, doors and portals are a recurring theme. Charlie has guarded a portal to Undertomb for centuries. Such an ordinary looking door really but it's a synapse to another dimension, and his job is to halt unexpected traffic... in both directions! However Charlie is prone to nodding off... and after so many centuries wouldn't you?
Doors yield, we enter and exit. They are transformative, they open onto wonder or horror. They guard our treasure, keep us safe and we open them to accept our friends, our trusted allies, grannies, mothers and sons, closed when we wish a moment's peace. They are unlocked to allow entry, or barred to keep us out. Mystically the door was associated with the passage into the next life by many ancient cultures. One of the symbols of the Phoenician god of the Underworld was a doorway, used on funerary monuments.
For Charlie, however things are just about to get a bit wild. As we move into Chapter 3 Charlie's snoozin' is about to unleash a whole world of trouble. Nu-City Blues updates every Thursday. It's free and hosted on Smackjeeves.com. Follow the link.
